The first title is never forgotten. What happened that day was a heroic deed. Real was to face Sporting de Gijón. They just needed one point to win the title. However, it was not an easy match. The txuri urdin took the early lead thanks to a penalty goal by Kortabarria but two minutes later Mesa put the locals front. Real had to equalize and they did it in the last minute. Zamora scored and Real became Liga champion. Today marks 39 years since Real accomplished that unforgettable feat.
