On the day when the 2019-20 Copa final was meant to be played, Athletic Club’s and Real Sociedad’s footballers have made a video together to underline the importance of joining strengths in the final fight our society is facing to defeat the virus. The footballers from both teams are encouraging their supporters, saying that we will enjoy “a great final” in the future, “because that will mean we will have overcome the pandemic and we will have done it together”.
Both sides thank the work done by the frontline workers to fight the virus. This is what Iker Muniain, Aritz Elustondo, Aritz Aduriz, Willian José, Iñaki Williams and Asier Illarramendi have said in the video:
“For the first time after more than 100 Copa editions, Real and Athletic will meet in a final. The Basque Final, they call it. It promises to be a historic match full of rivalry, but also full of joy and the coming together of all fans. It will be a great final, whenever it happens. First, because it will mean that we have overcome the worst moments of the pandemic. Second, because we will achieve it together and, above all, thanks to all of you who are fighting on the front lines of this final against the virus. It makes no difference what your colors are, this final belongs to all of us and we will win it together”.
