After finishing first in their group, la Real Sociedad gets a round off and will head straight through to the last 16. The first leg will be played on Wednesday 9 March whereas the second leg will be played at the Reale Arena on 16 March.

The eight runners-up from the Europa League group stage and the eight third-placed teams from the UEFA Champions League group stage will play the knockout round play-off stage. La Real will know its round of 16 opponent in February. No side can face another team from the same national association. Thus, la Real cannot face FC Barcelona or Sevilla FC.
