Honours even in the derby

The derby delivered all the usual ingredients: intensity, tension, and a fierce battle for control—but not much football. In the end, a goalless draw that leaves Real Sociedad frustrated, as the team was looking for a win to climb the table and strengthen their European hopes.

The first half offered little in the way of chances. The home side saw slightly more of the ball, but both the txuri urdin and their rivals struggled to create anything truly dangerous. A typical derby: tight, contested, and tactical. Just before halftime, Sergio Gómez had the clearest opportunity, latching onto a quick move down the left, but failed to connect cleanly with his shot.

The second half followed a similar pattern—intensity without fluidity. Berenguer threatened first for the visitors, forcing a sharp save from Remiro. Real responded from a set piece, with Brais connecting well with a header from Sergio’s cross, only to see Simón produce a solid stop. In the closing minutes, the match opened up slightly, but neither side found the breakthrough.

It wasn’t a derby for the highlight reels. Defensive discipline prevailed, and the scoreboard stayed frozen. A result that does little to help Real’s ambitions, with work still to be done in the final stretch of the season in order to secure another European spot. We are Real.
