David Zurutuza said goodbye to the txuri urdin family this morning. Together with the president Jokin Aperribay, the redheaded player appeared in press conference to bid farewell to the club of his life. Backed by his teammates, David was very happy that he was able to dress in the txuri urdin jersey for so many years.

Aperribay demonstrated his affection for Zuru: “Your are the last player of a generation that did a lot for Real. Your career has been excellent. When spectators are able to return to stadiums, you will receive the club’s Gold and Diamond Badge. That is what our fans want. Thank you for this wonderful years, this is your home”, he stated.

David was able to hide his emotions but found it difficult to speak up: “It is hard to string sentences together now. I am privileged to have been part of Real Sociedad for so many years. I have belonged to this club since I was 13. All the while, my family has made an enormous effort and a sacrifice and thanks to them, I became the person I am today”, David said.

Due to the pandemic, his farewell has been different: “I will not be able to live my last moments here with the people I love and who love me but I accept that. It has been a thrilling time for me and I have enjoyed it in a completely unique way, both in and out of the pitch. Many things will continue to feel a part of me wherever I may be. I have spent a long time reflecting and I have decided that the time has come for a new stage in my life. Thank you to all the coaches, to you, Jokin, employees, to my teammates, to my wife who has always been there and of course, to the fans. I felt their love and hearing them cry ’Zuru, Zuru’ has always been special. That’s all. Aupa Real”.
