Real Sociedad has reached an agreement with coach Pellegrino Matarazzo to become the new head coach of the first team until the end of the 2026-27 season.
Matarazzo will attend Sanse’s match tomorrow, before being officially unveiled at Anoeta Stadium on Monday at 16:00.
Born in 1977 in New Jersey, Pellegrino Matarazzo began his coaching career with FC Nürnberg’s youth sides. In 2017, he became assistant coach at Hoffenheim alongside Julian Nagelsmann, playing a key role in the team’s UEFA Champions League qualification. Two years later, he made his debut as a head coach, taking charge of VfB Stuttgart and leading them to promotion to the Bundesliga in the same season. After establishing the team in the top tier, he returned to Hoffenheim, managing the club for nearly two seasons and securing qualification for the UEFA Europa League.
He now joins Real Sociedad to get the team back on track and and provide a boost for the challenges that lie ahead this season.
