Members of the YUWA ONG are now in San Sebastián, after having been invited by Real Sociedad Fundazioa and Colegio Mayor Olarain, a local halls of residence. The expedition consists of eight football players and future coaches, two coaches, one teacher, one coordinator and the founder of the NGO. They arrived in San Sebastián last Friday and will be sharing their experiences here until the 2nd of October. For two weeks, they’ll get to know Real Sociedad’s educational model for football and will be trained by local coaches so they can later implement the knowledge acquired in Zubieta back in their native India.
During their stay, they won’t only share their experiences with Real Sociedad. They’ll stay at the Colegio Mayor Olarain and they’ll have an attractive agenda full of activities like visiting
the Real Sociedad Museum, the Donosti Aquarium and the Albaola Museum. They’ll also get to know the world of rowing thanks to one of the female rowing teams, Hibaika.
YUWA is an NGO which operates in India, more precisely in Jharkhand, one of the poorest states in the East of the country. Ever since it was funded in 2009, the organisation fights against child marriage, human trafficking and illiteracy through the inclusion of girls in an educational centre, where the most important resources are sporting programmes, especially football. These girls live an extreme reality, where the sentence “Sport saves lives” is truer than ever. Thanks to football, they can become masters of their own destiny.
Yesterday, they had the chance to meet and greet La Real players and took a picture with them before their training session in Anoeta. The purpose of this initiative of Real Sociedad Fundazioa and Colegio Mayor Olarain is to give better tools to these children, so that they can improve their own football programmes once they go back to their country. This way, they can develop faster and attract a higher number of girls, so that they can control their own destiny too.
