Victory slips away in stoppage time

Real Sociedad let slip a victory that was practically theirs in the dying moments of the match. In a wild game, the txuri urdin drew 3–3 against Deportivo Alavés, despite having come from behind on two occasions and having done more than enough to take all three points.

The match got off to a rocky start with an unfortunate incident that ended in an own goal by Caleta. The txuri urdin responded well and, before the quarter-hour mark, Sucic levelled with a tight finish from the edge of the box. But once again, another stroke of bad luck put the babazorros back in front, Turrientes cleared a ball that, after deflecting off Ibrahim, crept into the net. The Beasain native made amends almost immediately, capitalising on a ball at the edge of the area to fire a well-placed effort home and make it 2–2.

After the break, Real took the lead through Óskarsson, who finished off a headed assist from Kubo. The txuri urdin advantage forced the Vitoria side to push forward, but they rarely troubled Remiro, aside from a late cross-shot from Toni Martínez. In stoppage time, the home side were reduced to ten men when Sergio Gómez was shown a red card following a VAR review (the referee had initially given yellow). Then, practically in the last play of the match, with victory seemingly in our hands, Lucas Boyé hammered in a powerful right-footed strike to equalise. A gut punch.

A devastating blow for the San Sebastián side, who had all but counted the three points. But there's no time to dwell on it, now it's time to focus on the big occasion. Next Saturday, in Seville, we play the Copa del Rey Final. Let's go. Aupa Real!
