Work on the re-modelling of Anoeta stadium has started. Phase 0 got underway this morning – a process which will be completed in October 2019. Attending today’s event were San Sebastián mayor Eneko Goia, Gipuzkoa MP Markel Olano and Basque Sports Minister Jon Redondo who joined Real Sociedad President Jokin Aperribay.

The stadium’s press room staged the presentation for the start of this important project in Real Sociedad’s future. During the event, those representing the institutions involved in the project expressed their satisfaction to witness the start of renovation work which will change the way football is experienced at Anoeta, both on and off the pitch.

San Sebastián mayor Eneko Goia said that it gives him great pleasure to present “the first step towards a dream which we have all had for the past few years. The re-modelled stadium will bring the city a refurbished and fully comprehensive sporting infrastructure”. Gipuzkoa MP Markel Olano added: “This is a truly great day – one in which both Real Sociedad and the whole region takes a step towards the future”. The Basque Country Government was also present at the event, represented by Sports Minister Jon Redondo who said that refurbishing Anoeta “is a project which goes beyond football. Thanks to the support of the Basque Federations, other sports in the region will also benefit”.

Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay did not want to miss the opportunity to show his gratitude to all of the institutions who have supported the project. “Thank You from the bottom of my heart. We are building the Real Sociedad of the future and this is a wonderful day for us. Not just because of the happy weekend we have just enjoyed with the team’s successes but also because today, our dream has come true. It has involved many hours of hard work but today we will be securing the future, progress and foundations of Real Sociedad. The next few years will be difficult and the work will take a long time to complete so we ask our fans to be patient. With the various teams working on this project we will overcome those difficulties. The re-modelling of our stadium is the best investment Real Sociedad could make”, Aperribay said.
