Real made history tonight after beating Real Madrid 3-4 in a superb match in which they showed their quality. It's in situations of adversity that Real’s character shines through. The Bernabéu was packed but Real gave their all and booked their spot in the semi-finals thanks to goals by Ødegaard, Isak (he scored a brace) and Merino.
Real played a good first half and were well-organized. The hosts were dangerous in attack with Brahim and Vinicius trying to beat Remiro. In the 22nd minute Ødegaard opened the scoring assisted by a goalkeeping error from Areola. The madridistas tried their luck but to no avail. Before the break, Isak could have added two more but his shots did not find the back of the net.
The first fifteen minutes of the second half were not for the faint-hearted. Isak’s goal was chalked off after the VAR review showed him to be offside. Soon after, the striker took centre stage with two goals. First, he volleyed a chipped cross from Barrenetxea and then fired an unstoppable shot which Areola could not save. The score was 0-3 but much work still remained to be done. It would not be easy. Marcelo reduced the arrears for the hosts in the 59th minute. But Real did their best and added more goals. Merino sentenced the game after an assist by Isak. It was crazy. Rodrygo and Nacho pulled two back for Real Madrid in the final minutes but it’s Real who qualifies.
We are in the semi-finals and we did it great! We beat Real Madrid at the Bernabéu in an epic match. Six years later, we are in the semi-finals again, and we want more. Aupa Real!
