Forever in club history
They have both lived through times of great joy and many special moments. Two captains who have defended our colours with pride for more than a decade and who form part of the most important chapters in our club’s history. As soon as their playing days had come to an end, Aintzane Encinas and Maite Azkoaga, the respective captains of our Women’s and Field Hockey teams, donated the shirts they wore on their final games to the Real100 museum. Accompanied by CEO Nekane Soria and museum manager Iñaki Mendoza, the realistas signed their shirts, before leaving them as new exhibits to be left on display.
“We are very proud that our shirts, the last ones we wore with our teams, will stay forever at Real Sociedad’s museum” Aintzane and Maite agreed.
Equally as delighted is museum manager Iñaki Mendoza whose told Real Sociedad Television that Aintzane’s and Maite’s shirts have a great historical value and are a fantastic addition to the collection of memorabilia and items already on display. “We are very proud to have the shirts worn by two captains of our teams – the hockey team and women’s football team”, Iñaki explained. “Aintzane is one of our club’s historic players as she was the last active member of the first women’s team Real Sociedad set up. Maite meanwhile spent 14 years with the hockey team and has a brilliant honours list. We’re delighted to have a memento of hers for the museum. Having exhibits from our women’s teams is positive; it underlines the important roles women have in sport and here at our club”.
