This afternoon, Imanol Alguacil has been officially presented as Real Sociedad’s new head coach. Accompanied by the president, Jokin Aperribay and the Director of Football, Roberto Olabe, the coach from Orio was “full of optimism, excited and willing to meet this beautiful and difficult challenge”. He will become the first team’s coach for the second time and not only will he be in charge of the team until the end of the season but also during the upcoming season. A further option is that, from 2020, he may renew his contract every year.
Aperribay stated “He perfectly knows Real Sociedad, he is very strong, he identifies himself with the club and shows lot of ambition and common sense. Imanol, we wish you all the best, you know where we want to be and you have what it takes to do it”.
Olabe said “We must focus on the future and Imanol is key. We are enthusiastic about what the future can be with him. We had to take a decision which has been painful for us since this determination is not pleasant. I want to thank Asier for his work and honesty but we took this decision thinking about the future. We believe in Imanol, in his personality and in his contextual knowledge. We think that we will place Zubieta where we want it to be”.
Imanol considers that “We should take a step at a time but I know what brought me here. My way of being, the way I work and what the Sanse and the first team players have achieved. My ambition is that people feel proud of the team and give it the identity it needs. I am sure that, together, we will do it”.
