All square in el derbi. La Real drew with Athletic in the derby at the Reale Arena in which was the most special game of the year. More than 37,000 fans supported the team from the stands. It looked like it would be a win for the home side as the txuri urdin took the lead after fifty eight minutes when Isak converted from the penalty spot. However, Muniain levelled things up in the dying minutes. Shame.
The first half kicked off with a scare for la Real. A ball over the top from Athletic overcame Remiro and Williams was through on goal when Aritz slid in bravely to avoid a certain goal. Little by little, Imanol’s side grew into the game and had their first scoring opportunity around the twenty-minute mark as Isak fired an effort which was denied by Simón. Isak had another golden opportunity from the edge of the area but again, Simón made no mistake.
After the break, la Real played in Athletic’s half. Then, Iñigo Martínez brought down Merino inside the box and Isak stepped up and converted. Next, Sorloth tried his luck with a header in which were the best minutes for the txuri urdin side. Athletic continued to give it their all and were close to score the equalizer with a header by Berenguer. Nevertheless, Remiro did excellently to deny him when clean through. Real were taking the lead and had the control of the game but a stoppage time free-kick by Muniain ended the derby honors even.
