A txuri-urdin tradition

Sea goals

The sailors from Guipúzcoa experienced stressful moments waiting for the second goal. The 1960s gave Real Sociedad a unique and beautiful tradition. Every time Real scored, two rockets were launched at Atotxa. These rockets crossed the city and ended in the Cantabrian sea, where sailors were working. If they heard the sound of two rockets, it was good news. However, if they heard it once, it implied that the away team had scored. The person who launched the rockets was Patxi Alcorta.

When we moved to Anoeta, the tradition died out but in the 2006-07 season, it was restored. Nowadays, Juan Iturralde (Hernani), is the person who launches the rockets every time there are goals at Anoeta. Last season, Real Sociedad TV was with him during some matches. Real Sociedad is passion and emotion, the explosion of a rocket.
