John Aldridge marked a before and an after at Real. The first foreigner of the modern era arrived in San Sebastián in the season 1989-90.
His first year with Real were promising with 16 goals in Liga and 6 in Copa, including 6 goals against Barcelona-4 in Liga and 2 in Copa- and one goal against Sevilla which qualified the txuri urdin team for UEFA. He used to put on masterclasses against FC Barcelona, with 8 goals in total.
On March 4, 1990 he scored two goals against Rayo and achieved a significant milestone. He became the first Real player to score in six straight games. In the season 90-91, he scored 17 goals in Liga and 1 in Copa UEFA, eliminating Lausanne from the competition. He scored one goal in our victory at the Bernabéu-first victory for Real in Liga- and scored a brace in our win at the Camp Nou.
