Real Sociedad made their Copa del Rey debut this season, defeating CD Buol (1-0) in Requena this evening. Carlos Fernández scored the goal that sends the txuri urdin team to the second round of the knockout competition.
The game started well for the hosts, who even hit the crossbar in a clearance by Urko. Real Sociedad struggled to adapt at first, and it wasn't until the half-hour mark that they posed a threat in the opponent’s area with two nice efforts from Turrientes. Just before halftime, Zakharyan came close to open the scoring with a shot that barely missed the target.
In the second half, the difference in categories became more evident. After a shot from debutant Dadie, Carlos Fernández seized the rebound from the goalkeeper to score the first goal. Cho, with a good shot towards the end, hit the woodwork.
Real Sociedad fulfilled the expectations and progresses to the next round. Next up for the txuri urdin is a match against FC Barcelona. Go! We are Real!
