Mathew Ryan was born on April 8,1992 in Plumpton, Australia. He made his senior debut for Blacktown City, moving from Central Coast Mariners on a loan. Then, he was given a three-year contract at the Mariners, where he played from 2010 to 2013. In the summer of 2013, aged 21, Ryan was transferred to Club Brugge, where he played for two years and made a total of 102 appearances.

In the 2011-12 season, he was named Goalkeeper of the Year in Belgium.Ryan’s continued impressive performances in Belgium earned him the attention of Valencia, which signed him to defend the che’s goal. There, he competed for the top spot with Diego Alves and Jaume Domenech. In total, he made 23 appearances for Valencia. In January 2017, he made the switch to Genk, where he played a total of 24 games. In the 2017-18 season, he was transferred to Premier League side Brighton, where he was the main goalkeeper during three and a half seasons. He made a total of 123 appearances. In February of 2021, he was loaned to Arsenal and now joins Real Sociedad willing to contribute his experience and quality. 

Ryan plays for the Australia national team and has played at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
