Real Sociedad wrapped up the season with a defeat at the Santiago Bernabéu. In a match with little at stake for either side, the home team proved more clinical than the txuri urdin.
Madrid carved out the first clear opportunity with Mbappé through on goal, but Marrero reacted brilliantly to deny him. La Real responded quickly on the counter, with a golden chance for Sergio Gómez, who couldn’t find the net against Lunin. Mbappé fired another effort over the bar, and Marín followed with a close-range attempt that also sailed high after a corner. The txuri urdin were finding space in behind and looked dangerous, with Sucic narrowly missing another promising effort. Just before the break, Madrid took the lead through a highly questionable penalty. Marrero saved the initial shot, but the rebound fell kindly and ended up in the net.
The second half saw Madrid dominate possession, but Marrero continued to shine, keeping the hosts at bay until the final minutes, when Mbappé finally beat him with a low-driven finish.
The season ends here and with it, a challenging chapter. It hasn’t been the year we dreamed of, but there’s no doubt we’ll come back stronger. We are Real.
