Real suffered their first defeat at the Reale Arena. The txuri urdin was a goal up in the first half but the red card for Llorente conditioned the game and turned the situation around. The realistas gave their all out there but leave the Reale Arena empty-handed.
The hosts could not have wished for a better start to the game as in the 5th minute Merino scored the opening goal with a header after an assist from Portu. We were one goal up against a very difficult opponent. Real struggled to add a second. However, Oyarzabal’s header went wide. The team was putting in a good performance whereas Getafe did little in the first half. The match got stuck until the break.
After the break, Llorente was sent off and 10-man Real went on for the win. Nevertheless, the team from Madrid were controlling the game and Mata levelled the score with a header. With 20 minutes to go, Real had to suffer but the team refused to throw in the towel and tried to score a second. The chance fell to Portu, but Soria denied his shot. With five minutes left to play, Maksimovic finished off a fine move to make it 1-2 and give Getafe the victory.
Real could not snatch a point at the Reale Arena in a game in which the numerical disadvantage was an influential conditioner. With the international break, the squad will recharge their batteries. Aupa Real!
