What a way to make your debut! It could not have turned out better. Real Sociedad inaugurated Reale Arena with a massive victory over Atlético de Madrid. It’s a wonderful start to the journey that lies ahead, one which fills the txuri urdin family with hope with the amazing stadium we have. Today’s win was without response. Goals from Odegaard and Monreal, who making his debut, raised the roof at the new stadium.
With an amazing atmosphere in the stands, it was impossible for the game not to turn out well. It turned out more than well. Real Sociedad dominated the first half, enjoying greater possession of the ball and more chances. Clear chances too. Oyarzabal, in a one-on-one, saw his shot blocked by Oblak. Llorente, who looked especially fired up, saw his header fly inches over the bar. Then the captain went close again with a header than sailed just wide. There was nothing to reproach the team for. All that was missing was a goal – the team certainly deserved one. Atlético meanwhile, did Little in the first 45 minutes.
The hosts looked even stronger after the break – playing with the same intensity and rhythm as they had in the opening half, the realistas laid siege on Oblak’s goal and were rewarded for their efforts. In the space of three minutes, the txuri urdin scored twice. Odegaard opened the scoring with a low, left-foot shot which took a deflection off Savic on its way inside the post. Moments later, Monreal got off the mark on his debut with a wonderful poacher’s strike, pouncing on a loose ball after Oblak had blocked.
All in all it was a faultless performance, with some sensational individual displays -. a great team performance from everyone without exception. And what a way to celebrate the first game at Reale Arena. Absolutely fantastic. Aupa Real!
