Real Sociedad closed out 2024 on a sour note, falling deservedly to Celta de Vigo in Balaídos this afternoon. The txuri-urdin were not at their best, and the home side earned the win with a solid performance. For the Donostiarras, nothing seemed to work today.
During the first half, Real Sociedad couldn’t display their usual style of play. While the match was fairly even, the hosts maintained a slight advantage throughout. There were few clear chances, but two quick goals from Celta at the end of the half gave them a lead that didn’t reflect the balance of play. Durán found the net twice—first with a powerful long-distance shot, then by finishing off a blocked effort from Alfon—making the challenge much tougher for the txuri-urdin.
In the second half, Real Sociedad showed a slightly better performance, but they lacked the sharpness to trouble Guaita. The Celta keeper didn’t have to make a single stop.
