First matches

After winning the Spanish Cup title, the footballers decided to separate from the Club Ciclista and legally form the football society.

The new entity was officially established on September 7, 1909. Mr. Adolfo Sáenz Alonso was the president. On February 11, 1910,  King Alfonso XII gave the new club his patronage. Subsequently, it became known as Real Sociedad de Fútbol.

At the beginning, the majority of the games (both national and international) were friendly matches. Football was more a show and teams announced the players in advance.

Real Sociedad’s pitch was Ondarreta, which was inaugurated in 1909. It was located next to the beach in the neighborhood of Antiguo. It was the first pitch which was specifically built to play football. In the past, matches took place in the interiors of racetracks or cycle tracks.
