Real Sociedad fulfilled the expectations and secured a spot in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey by defeating Málaga 0-1 tonight. An own goal by Málaga in the second half granted the txuri urdin passage to the next round.
Malaga enjoyed some early opportunities, they even hit the woodwork with one of their shots. The side from San Sebastian showed their quality and started creating clear chances. Oyarzabal, on two occasions, came close to giving Imanol's side the lead but failed to beat the goalkeeper.
In the second half, in a set-piece action, Einar inadvertently put the ball into his own net while attempting to deflect a header from Merino. Real Sociedad dominated the game once they had the advantage, and even though they were unable to extend their lead, they made it to the round of 16.
