Sergio Francisco will no longer lead the first team

Real Sociedad has decided to bring an end, with immediate effect, to the contractual relationship with Sergio Francisco, who will no longer continue as head coach of the first team. Assistant coach Iosu Rivas has also been dismissed from his role.

The txuri-urdin club would like to place on record its gratitude for the professionalism, dedication and commitment shown by Sergio Francisco, both during his spell in charge of the first team and throughout his many years at the club.

Over more than eleven seasons as a coach within the academy, Sergio Francisco played a key role in the final stage of development of numerous homegrown players. Alongside the promotions achieved with both the C team and Sanse, many of the footballers who now form — and will continue to form — part of the first team completed an important part of their pathway under his guidance.

Ansotegi to lead the team until the break

Jon Ansotegi, currently head coach of Sanse, will take charge of the first team on an interim basis for the two remaining fixtures before the Christmas break. Imanol Agirretxe will act as assistant coach.

Ansotegi will oversee his first training session with the first team this afternoon at 16:30, in a closed-door session.
